Battlers Shield
There were no social bowls played over the past week due to the very hot weather.
The Battlers Shield bowlers battled it out though at Binnaway for their third round of the competition on Saturday, January 31.
To say it was very hot is an understatement but we started early and finished at lunchtime.
It was that hot that Lloyd Gwyn was even seen drinking ice water while Norm Lummis and Baden Fisher didn’t even have any refreshments on the bus trip home. Wonders will never cease!
The results of the day were Binnaway 73. Gilgandra 62. Mendooran 53 and Warren 47. Team one for Gil, being Dave Jones, Lloyd Gwyn, Tracey Riley, Wenden Riley and sub Shoey Barwick had three wins.
Team two, Michele Doherty, Ed Wlodarczyk, Maxine Elsom and Norm Lummis had two loses and a draw while Team three, Stacey Reynolds, Jill Hankins, Bruce Parker and Baden Fisher had three unlucky defeats.
The player of the day in team one was Dave Jones. In team two it was Michele Doherty. For team three it was Jill Hankins along with Stacey Reynolds who both played great bowls.
The hospitality of the Binnaway Club was very much appreciated and as per usual the lunch they put on was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Everyone had a great day but were glad to get home after such a hot day.
The only one not complaining was Bruce ‘Hardy’ Parker who relished the conditions.
Going into the final round to be played at Mendooran on Saturday, February 7, Binnaway has the lead on 242, followed by Mendooran 232, Gil on 216 while Warren brings up the rear with 148. Good luck to the Gil Battlers!
