Wednesday’s social bowls

The winners of Wednesday social bowls (February 26) were Ed Wlodarczyk, Bob Rogers and Dave Jones who defeated Wayne, James L’Homme and Garry Garbutt, 21-14.

Danial Riley wins a 21-up final thriller

The final of the 21-up has been run and won with Danial Riley defeating Shaun Marchant in the closest of margins being 21-20, after the scores were locked at 20-all, going into the last end.

Both bowlers put on an absolute great display of bowls and proved that they deserved their place in the final. Congratulations Danial!

Pennants action

The number five pennants team headed west to Cobar on Saturday, March 1 to play the next round of the Mid West Region section of the 2025 Pennants.

After heading off very early on Saturday morning the team talk on the way over must of worked wonders considering Cobar convincingly defeated Gil on our home turf a couple of weeks ago.

We were determined to turn the tables this time and that we certainly did in soundly defeating Cobar, 95-33, 10-1.

The Noel Raines team won 28-8. Garry Raines team won 35-11. Evan Kew’s team also had a very good win, 32-14.

On this same day Baradine were down the road in taking on Bourke for their round game. Baradine had a very good win in this match defeating Bourke 74-43, 10-OUT0.

Hearing this result we couldn’t get to Bourke quick enough on Sunday morning as we had beat Baradine the week before so all was looking good for a clean sweep for the weekend. Things didn’t quite to plan though when we got to Bourke as they were very keen to redeem themselves and that they certainly did.

The match came down to the wire with Bourke leading by only one shot going into the last end of the last game.

With Gil holding three shots the skip for Bourke did the damage with his very last bowl, much to the delight of the home team.

The final score for the match was Bourke 54-51, 9-1.

Noel Raines team was defeated 12-17.  Garry Raines team lost 17-20. The only winners on the day and the only two-game winners for the weekend were team of Maxine Elsom, Norm Lummis, Blake Cook and the skip of weekend, Evan Kew who had a good 22-17 win.

The three bowlers who won the best and fairest award by far just happened to be our three subs Evan Kew, Norm Lummis and Bob Dicks.

A great weekend was had by all with team manager Janelle Lummis not reporting any issues of concern with any team members and everyone knows what happens on tour, stays on tour.

The number seven pennants team didn’t fair so well when they took on Binnaway on their home turf on Sunday, March 2 which resulted in a good win to Binnaway, 70-57, 9-1.

Gil Riley’s team were the only winners of the day with the score being 23-17. David Duffy’s team lost 27-18 as did Wenden Riley’s team, 26-16.

Nothing else to report on the sevens’ day out as they arrived home long before the fives got back to town.

Next weekend the fives will be having a rest while the sevens head off to Gulgong for their next game.
