Wednesday’s social bowls

At social bowls Last Wednesday (April 8), nine bowlers participated.

The winners with the lowest winning margin were Bruce Parker, Garry Garbutt (swinger) and Bob Rogers who defeated Mal Altmann and Mike Wood, 15-13.

The remaining game resulted in Steve Jarvey and Mouse Holland who had a good win against Dave Jones and Stacey Reynolds, 25-7.

Weekend action

Sunday’s social bowls on April 12 had 13 bowlers enjoy a roll up.

The winners of the afternoon were Harmony Raines, Dave Jones and ‘Mr Consistent’ Mouse Holland, who defeated Dave Stockings, Jill Hankins and Norm Lummis, 17-9.

Two games of Fours Championships were played on Saturday, April 11.

First up were the team of Stacey Reynolds, Jill Hankins, Bob Dicks and Wenden Riley who had a very close victory over Leroy Gregory, Shaun Marchant, Blake Cook and Dylan Marchant, 18-15.

By all reports Wenden was the man-of-the-match in this game and broke the hearts of the Dylan Marchant team on many occasions in taking out their hard-fought shots on a lot of ends.

Sadly it wasn’t the only heartbreak for Shauny ‘go the Sharkies’ Marchant over the weekend.

Also played on Saturday afternoon was the match between Dave Jones, Baden Fisher, Norm Lummis and Trevor Briese who took on Andrew Townsend, Tracey Riley, Maxine Elsom and Danial Riley.

The Danial Riley-skipped team jumped out of the barriers first in claiming three shots on the very first end.

After the good start with a very long way to go they stumbled badly but kept upright for the next 11 ends of which they could only claim two of the ends and two shots.

On the 12th end in being down 18-5, Riley’s three team members went to Plan B which involved all making a purchase at the bar which can only be described as an amber fluid form of performance-enhancing drugs.

The turn-around was remarkable in that the team then claimed eight of the next nine ends with the score being 20-19 in their favour coming into the last end.

The Briese team was just too good on that last end and helped themselves to three shots and a 22-20 victory. A very good game played in great spirits.

With the semi-finals coming up in the fours, names are now being taken for the triples.
