Happy New Year to everyone!
A few games of social bowls were played over Christmas and New Year with the numbers down a bit due to the very hot weather.
Wednesday’s Social Bowls
Last Wednesday, January 14, James L’Homme, Ed Wlodarczyk and Garry Garbutt defeated Mike Newstead, Bob Rogers and Dave Jones, 12-8.
Sunday January 18 social bowls winners were Evan Kew, Jill Hankins (swinger) and Jayden Doran in defeating Bob Rogers and Stacey Reynolds, 18-10.
Welcome to Jill who is a new bowler at the club.
Battlers Shield
There has been two rounds of Battlers Shield matches played over the last two weeks.
The first round was played in Gil with Binnaway winning the day on 75 points.
Gil gained 67 points followed by Mendooran 65 points and Warren 49 points.
The bowler of the day was Michele Doherty who as lead for her team played great bowls and hit the jack on 10 occasions out of a total of 24 ends.
The second round was played at Warren on Saturday January 17.
Mendooran gained 114 points, Binnaway 94, Gil 87 and the home green advantage didn’t help Warren at all when they bought up the rear with 52 points.
As a result of these two rounds Mendooran is leading on 179.
Binnaway is second on 169. Gil 154, with Warren on 101 points.
The bowler of the day went to Ed Wlodarczyk. It is quite difficult to go from playing on grass to synthetic greens but Ed took to it like a duck to water.
The shot of the day, which some are claiming to be the shot of the year, went to Bruce Parker. Well done lads.
The winner of the shield is worked out by way of a running tally of scores over the four rounds.
The next round will be played in Binnaway followed by the last round at Mendooran.
Pennant bowls will commence in mid-February with the Gil club entering two teams being the fours and the sevens.
