A Pairs Championships
There were four games of A Pairs Championship bowls played over the past week.
First up on Thursday July 10, Maxine Elsom and Norm Lummis played Bruce Parker and Gil Riley with the score being 30-7 in favour of the Norm Lummis-skipped team.
This game was played on coldest day of the week, much to Norm’s delight, and he absolutely thrived under the conditions. Parky and Gil played some good bowls but it just wasn’t there day.
Another two A Pairs’ matches were held on Saturday, July 12.
The battles included Mouse Holland and Rambo taking on Larry Clark and Dave Jones.
This game resulted in a good win to the Rambo skipped team with the score being 28-5. Also on Saturday, Jarryd Eason and Garry Raines took on Bob Rogers and Rod Howchin.
Jarryd and Garry won this game 29-13 with it rumoured that Rod and Bob will now play Christine Howchin and Bev Rogers in their next game.
Sunday’s Social Bowls
On Sunday, July 13, the Raines team of Jo and Noel played Blake Cook and Evan Kew.
The Raines team had a good 10-1 lead after eight ends with Blake and Evan looking in all sorts of trouble, but with steely determination the lads won seven of the next 10 ends with the score being 14-all on the 18th end.
With three ends remaining this was anyone’s game with a nail-biting finish assured.
As it happened, the Raines team won the next two ends, going into the last end with a four-shot lead. On this last end Blake and Evan gained two shots which wasn’t quite enough and Jo and Noel ran out winners 18-16.
There were a couple of near misses from Evan with his last couple of bowls which gave the Fox a couple of nervous moments but as it goes with bowls, they just missed.
Names are now being taken for A and B Singles Championships. Bowlers to please keep moving along with the A and B Pairs.
