To those who didn’t know, one of our very excited club bowlers, being Rambo, made the front page of the Gil Weekly last week for his prize winning chooks.

If weren’t able to buy a copy of the weekly or didn’t hear this good news you only have to head up to the Sporties at anytime and Rambo will, in no doubt, fill you in on the details.

Wednesday’s social bowls

There were 13 bowlers for social bowls on Wednesday, June 18. The winners with the highest winning margin were Dave Jones, James L’Homme and Dylan Marchant in defeating Mal Altmann, Larry Clark and Garry Garbutt, 19-11.

The remaining game saw a win go to Ed Wlodaraczyk, The Godber twins (Phil and Dave) and Jayden Doran who defeated Bob Rogers, Bruce Parker and Rod Howchin, 20-15.

Sunday’s social bowls

Sunday social bowls had six starters with the winners being Dave Jones, Shaun Marchant and Norm Lummis who defeated Jayden Doran, Wenden Riley and Evan Kew, 18-12.

B Pairs Championships

Two games of B Pairs Championships were also played over the weekend.

First up on Saturday June 21 Maxine Elsom and Norm Lummis gained the win against Dave Jones and Larry Clark, 40-6. It was just one of those days for Maxine and Norm as everything just seemed to go right, while for Dave and Larry everything just didn’t.

To the runners up credit they kept going and tried until the very end. It just wasn’t there day. Norm Lummis played great bowls while his partner didn’t play too bad either.

The next game of B Pairs was played on Sunday June 22. This game was played between Shayne Barwick and Baden Fisher who came up against Bob Rogers and David Duffy. Rogers and Duffy ran out winners 23-15. Duffy celebrated accordingly, while Baden in being on the losing team, also celebrated like a winner. Well done boys!

Triples Championship final

The main event held over the weekend was the much anticipated final of the Triples Championships for 2025, with the finalists being Mal Altmann, Bruce Parker and Dylan Marchant against Jo Raines, Matthew Thompson and Noel Raines. The score along the way indicated just how close this game was with it being only 6-all after seven ends. It was at this point that the Noel Raines team took the lead, be it only slender, and held that lead right through until the 19th end when the score was 15-13 in Fox’s favour with two ends to play. Dylan and his lads, with nerves of steel, helped themselves to three hard fought shots on the second last end to hold a one-shot lead going into the last end.

With both sides holding shots at different times on this end it came down to the two skips, as it does, to decide the match. With Dylan holding shot the ‘Fox’ soon took that from him.

Next bowl Dylan got the shot back and as Fox does he again took the shot. With Dylan having only one bowl remaining he put it right on the jack and the crowd quietly waited for the final bowl to be played by the Raines team which just missed the kitty and resulted in a hard fought and deserved win to Dylan, Mal and Parky. Congratulations! Well done to both teams on putting on a great display of bowls.

By all accounts the celebrations were pretty wild and were over well and truly over before the sun went down.
