Wednesday’s Social Bowls

There were 13 bowlers who enjoyed a game of social bowls last Wednesday, May 28.

The winners with the lowest winning score were Larry Clark and Dave Jones who defeated Mike Newstead and Ed Wlodarczyk, 11-8.

In other games Bob Rogers and Jayden Doran had a win against Steve (Mendooran) and Leroy Gregory, 17-8. Graham (visitor), Garry Garbutt (swinger) and Rod Howchin defeated James L’Homme and Mick (Mendooran), 14-8.

Sunday’s Social Bowls

On Sunday June 1, social bowls winners were Dave Jones, Dylan Marchant (swinger) and David Duffy who had a good win over Bruce Parker and Rambo, 19-8, 12 ends to four.

According to my sources Rambo was happy to be skipping against Duffy for this game. Not too sure if he was very happy with the final score though.

The remaining game saw a win go to Mal Altmann and Gil Riley who defeated Shaun Marchant and Norm Lummis, 23-14.

Triples Championships

Two games of Triples Championships were played over the past week or so. First up on Saturday, May 31 the Danial Riley skipped team which also included David Duffy and Tracey Riley, came up against the team of Noel Raines, Matthew Thompson and Jo Raines.

The Raines-skipped team took control early in the game with the score being 22-7 after 14 ends. It was at this point the Danial Riley-skipped team came right back into the match, winning the last seven ends, but just falling short with the final score being 22-20. In the remaining triples match Mal Altmann, Bruce Parker and Dylan ‘the destroyer’ Marchant defeated Maxine Elsom, Blake Cook and Norm Lummis, 22-19. Dylan and his lads led from the very first end and were never headed with the score blowing out at one stage to a 16-3 lead after 10 ends.

At this point the Norm Lummis-skipped team were playing for a bit of pride so the score didn’t look so bad in the paper.

That train of thought must of worked as they doggedly crept back into the game with the score being pegged back to 20-19 in Dylan’s favour on the 19th end.

With the Norm Lummis team holding what looked like winning shots on both the last two ends the ‘destroyer’ soon rectified that situation and lead his team to a very deserved win.

As a result the Dylan Marchant team will take on the Noel Raines team in the final of this event. No word on when this game will be played but I do have it on very good authority that Dylan and his boys are fired up and ready to go.

Paul Jenkins Memorial Bowls Day

Nine keen Gil bowlers ventured east on Saturday, May 31 to Mendooran to play in the Paul “Whitey’ Jenkins Memorial Bowls Day.

While not being among the prize winners a great day was had by all with the hospitality of the Mendooran Bowling Club second to none.

The highlight for one of the Gil teams was having a win against Dudley King’s team from Gular. Even though Dudley played great bowls his team went down on the very last end.
