Wednesday’s social bowls

There were 11 starters for bowls last Wednesday, April 9. The winners were Mal Altmann, Ed (the swinger) Wlodarczyk, and Jayden Doran, who defeated Bruce Parker, and Rambo, 26-14.

The remaining game saw a win go to Dave Jones, Bob Rogers and Dylan Marchant in defeating James L’Homme, Larry Clarke and Garry Garbutt, 37-15.

As the spin of the wheel went, the winners were decided by the lowest winning score much to the disappointment of the Dylan Marchant skipped team who had a good win but then lost on the spin. That’s the luck of the wheel.

Sunday’s social bowls

Ten bowlers enjoyed a game of social bowls on Sunday, April 13. The winners were Stacey Reynolds, Dave Jones and Norm Lummis who defeated James Riley, his mum Tracey Riley and Baden Fisher.

As requested the score hopefully won’t go to print so I will suffice in saying that Norm’s team had the same score as the age of the ‘key to the door’, while Baden’s team got the score of half a dozen eggs. All good fun.

The remaining game resulted in the dynamic duo, Bruce Parker and Leroy Gregory defeating Jayden Doran and Peter Cook, 17-14.

Gilgandra Cancer Fundraiser

Twenty four bowlers enjoyed a social game at the Gilgandra Cancer Fundraiser day held on Saturday April 12. The winners were Shaun Marchant, Jayden Doran and Darky Ruttley. More details of the day and a final tally will be included in next week.

Gilgandra number five pennants team off to state finals

Over the weekend the Number Five Pennants team contested the Mid-West Region final at Dubbo City Bowling Club.

With the bus heading south early on Saturday morning our 12 bowlers were all geared up to take on The Country Club Orange. By lunch time they were headed back home with a good win under their belt in defeating Orange, 69-49, 9-1.

The Noel Raines team which also included Jo Raines, Blake Cook and Dylan Marchant had a great win with the score being, 33-11. The Garry Raines team which included Evan Kew, Mal Altmann and Rambo Young recorded a 24-14 win, while Danial Riley’s team of Maxine Elsom, David Duffy, and Brent McKenzie had a 12-24 loss.

In having the bye on Saturday afternoon we were back on the Newell on Sunday morning to take on Molong Bowling Club.

This match resulted in a very close win to the Gil Sporties bowlers with the score being 66-61, 9-1.

Danial Riley’s team had a great come from well behind win, 25-17. The Garry Raines team held on for a nail biting win with the score being 21-20, while the Noel Raines team had a 20-24 loss but most importantly the points they scored still added to the overall tally.

The outcome of winning these two matches now results in the Gil Sporties bowling team heading to the ‘big smoke’ at the end of June to contest the finals of the state playoffs to be held at bowling clubs in the Cabramatta area.

Congratulations bowlers!
