Wednesday’s social bowls
Twelve bowlers enjoyed social bowls last Wednesday, November 20, 2024. The winners with the lowest winning score were Mal Altmann, Bob Rogers, and Garry Garbutt who defeated James L’Homme, Bruce Parker, and Jayden Doran, 17-11. In the remaining game, the win went to John Johnson, Trevor Johnson, and Dylan Marchant against Leroy Gregory, Ray Riley, and Rod Howchin, 19-9.

Sunday’s social bowls
A good field of 17 bowlers turned up for social bowls on Sunday, November 24. The winners were David Jones, Mal Altmann (swinger), and Wenden Riley who defeated Michelle Doherty and Bob Rogers, 17-10. In other games, Dave ‘Stocko’ Stockings, Leroy Gregory, and Dylan Marchant defeated Kayleb Dalton, Bruce Parker, and Norm Lummis, 11-7.

Even Rambo having his secret weapon Kelly come out from Dubbo to play wasn’t enough for him and Shayne ‘Shoey’ Barwick to gain a win against Christine Howchin, Rod Howchin, and Jayden Doran who ran out winners 15-13.

Championships bowls
There were two A and B singles championship games played over the weekend. In B-grade, Blake Cook had a very close win against Macca McKenzie, 31-28, after it was 28-all on the second last end. In the other B-grade game, Wenden Riley defeated Jayden Doran, 31-21. Both these bowlers played very good bowls.

Wenden now goes into the final of this event against Blake Cook.

In A-grade, the match of the round was between David Duffy and Danial Riley. This game was predicted to be a grandstand finish, and that it certainly was. Duffy looked at times to be doing it quite comfortably, as shown by the fact that he had the lead on 25 of the 33 ends played, but the never-give-up Riley never gave up. As such, the score was 30-all coming into the last end. Duffy was holding shot when Riley put down his last bowl that resulted in his bowl just falling in and Duffy’s falling out. Well done, lads, on a great game.

Riley will certainly need to be right on his game when he comes up against Rambo in the semi-final.

The remaining A-grade wasn’t such a close affair when Mouse Holland came up against Fox Raines. By all reports, it just wasn’t Mouse’s day, with Fox gaining the required 31 points. While I’m not real sure what Mouse scored, but I don’t think it was two (2) many.

Well done, Mouse, you at least played more games than some of us in the championships.
