The final of the B pairs championships was played on Sunday, October 6. Bill Gale and Blake Cook came up against Bob Rogers and David Duffy. Rogers and Duffy jumped out of the barriers very well, and after nine ends, they had a 9-3 lead. By the 13th end, it was 12-all and anyone’s game to win. It was at this stage Bill Gale hit landfall like a category five cyclone and caused a lot of havoc for the opposition. As a result, Bill and Cooky took the lead and were never headed, going on to a 24-17 victory. Bill was duly named man of the match. Congratulations to both teams for making the final.
Last Wednesday’s Social Bowls
There were 12 starters for social bowls last Wednesday, October 2. The winners were James L’Homme, Bob Rogers, and Mal Altmann, who defeated George Shipway, Stacey Reynolds, and Jayden Doran, 21-11. The remaining game saw a win go to James Rogers, ‘Darky’ Ruttley, and Dylan Marchant against Bruce Parker, Dave Jones, and Gil Riley, 30-15.
Sunday’s Social Bowls
Sunday, October 6 social bowls was a great fun day with a football theme that saw 16 bowlers enjoy the afternoon. The victors were Bruce Parker and Mal Altmann, who defeated Lloyd Gwyn and Rod Howchin, 19-11. The runners-up were Lucy McKenzie, Lyn Tate, and Brent McKenzie, who defeated Dave ‘Stocko’ Stockings, Baden Fisher, and Shaun Marchant, 19-11. Lucy and Lyn made Brent’s job as skip very easy in this game as they both played great bowls. Also claiming a win were Shayne Barwick, Maxine Elsom, and Norm Lummis, who had a very enjoyable game against Paul Elsom, Jayden Doran, and Wenden Riley, 21-15.
The best-dressed prize had two winners, being Shayne Barwick and Wenden Riley. The prize for the bowler with the most potential went to ‘Stocko,’ while the bowler with the least potential was Paul Elsom. At the end of the afternoon, we held a winner-takes-all, closest-to-the-jack competition. The winner of this event, with what would be described as an unbeatable bowl, went to Bruce Parker. Having also won earlier in the afternoon, Parkey was in no doubt the bowler of the day.
Coonamble Tournament
Also on Sunday (October 6), Jo and Noel Raines, along with Dylan Marchant, ventured north to Coonamble for a bowls tournament. This bowls team involved both a Souths and Parramatta supporter, which makes it seem like they weren’t real interested in our fun footy bowls day at home. However, they did end up higher on the ladder than said teams, gaining fourth place.
