Wednesday’s social bowls
There were 16 bowlers for social bowls last Wednesday, July 31. The winners were Paul Morris, James L’Homme, and Dylan Marchant, who defeated Ed Wlodarczyk, David, and Rambo Young 20-14.
Sunday’s social bowls
There were eight social bowlers on Sunday, August 4, with the winners being Bruce Parker and Dylan Marchant in defeating David Jones and Jayden Doran, 25-12.
Saturday’s Battlers Shield
On Saturday, August 3, the first round of the Battlers Shield was played. This was a beautiful day, weather-wise, for bowls and a great day was had by all. A lovely lunch was provided by our chef Shayne ‘Gordon Ramsey’ Barwick, and much appreciation goes to our helpers on the day, including Tracey and Georgia Riley and Harmony Raines for serving the lunch and cleaning up. The leaders after the first round are the Gil team on 122 points, followed by Warren 90 points, Gulargambone 74, and Warren 59. The next round will be played in Gular.
Thrilling triples championships final
The final of the Triples Championships was also played on Sunday. In deciding whether to drive to the coast or watch this game, I made the decision to watch the bowls. As it ended up, I could have gotten to the beach, had a dip in the ocean, and caught a few fish while this game was still going. Such was the focus and concentration (particularly by Rambo) it took five hours to play this game of 21 ends. As the sun was setting in the west, this marathon of a game was finally completed. The victors were the family affair of Fox and Jo Raines and their son-in-law Matthew Thompson, who defeated Mouse Holland, Bob Dicks, and Rambo Young, 18-13.
The Fox Raines-skipped team took the lead on the first end and were never headed. The Rambo Young-skipped team played very good bowls and never gave up, and on many ends were holding a few shots until Fox upset the apple cart. Congratulations to the winning team, particularly Matthew, who won his first game of championships, and the way he played it won’t be his last. Well done to the 2024 runners-up Mouse, Bob, and Rambo, for making it into the final.
