Friday, May 3 was a very special day for the one and only Kevin ‘Bluey’ Milgate who turned 99 years young. Best known as ‘Blue’, Kevin celebrated the day with a small gathering of friends who enjoyed a birthday lunch at The Sporties.

On Saturday, May 4, Blue enjoyed yet another birthday luncheon with family members, which was also held at the same venue. To have two parties in two days is pretty good going for anyone of any age, and knowing how Blue always did enjoy a party, nothing has changed.

When asked what was ‘one’ of the things that helped him get to this age, the answer was having good friends. Mick Harvey organised and travelled all the way from Port Macquarie for the occasion and Blue noted that they had worked together and been great friends for more than 50 years. His very good friends Bruce and Geanie Rogers, Graeme Lewis, Bob Dicks, Rambo Young and Maxine Elsom were also in attendance.

Blue also commented that in life you should be like a battery and try your best to look at the positive side not the negative. Another of Blue’s theories in life was you should always listen. If you listen you learn and when you become older you are therefore wiser. There was an exception to this rule made on the day as Blue did a fair bit of talking, not much listening, which was great as we loved hearing all his stories. Particularly his dancing days and his love of the jazz waltz.

In his 99 years he has had some ups and downs, but overall he has had a good life with many good times along the way. Many happy returns ‘Blue’ and God willing and the creeks don’t rise, we will back this time next year to celebrate the big 100.
