Anticipation mounting ahead of long weekend racing action
Nine Gilgandra drivers are set to race in the Fender Benders (BENDY 1500) this weekend.

Nine Gilgandra drivers are set to race in the Fender Benders (BENDY 1500) as Gilgandra District Speedway Club (GDSC) gets set to commence a huge 2026 season of racing this weekend.
Brian Harland (05), Nathan Harland (06), Corey Broom (08), Richard Howard (21), David Gordon (42), Dean Brooks (74), Jye Pope (66), Braydon Holland (11) and Michael Broom (79) were the local nominations in this category (as at Sunday, January 18, via social media).
Gilgandra’s Isobelle Jennar (8) was one of 12 nominations in the Fast Fours, while Lachlan Russell (71), Peter Harland (17), Geoff Stuart (99) and Jamie Kerr (102) had nominated for the Street Stocker 1000.
Braydon Holland (14) and Keith Urquhary (8) had put their names in for the Production Sedans category, ensuring the GDSC race weekend will have plenty of local flavour.
The juniors category was also popular with a host of travelling talent set to tackle the 426m Gilgandra Speedway clay racetrack.
It is expected this will be a two-event weekend double-header, a spectacular start to 2026.
The Gilgandra District Speedway Club’s site was renovated in 2025 before a bumper October long weekend meeting.
That meeting followed eight months of upgrades, with the GDSC committee working 12-hour days for three weeks across weekends and also nights to get the track and facilities ready for the October re-opening.
Around 80 competitors travelled from near and far, with a family battle in the NSW Fender Bender Series between winner Nathan Harland and his uncle Brian Harland (second) a highlight.
The GDSC was formed in 1988, and racing began at Gilgandra Speedway back in 1991.
Speedway race meetings attract an average of 80 drivers, 40 volunteers and 350 race patrons injecting spending into the local economy.
