CTG Aboriginal Health Services held their annual staff development session last Wednesday, November 27 at the Gilgandra Shire Hall.

CTG Aboriginal Health Services is the umbrella under which many primary aboriginal healthcare services fall under, including Gilgandra Local Aboriginal Medical Service (GLAMS), centered around Dubbo, Coonamble, and Gilgandra.

Each year, staff come from around the western plains to meet, workshop, and discuss the direction of their businesses. This year, over eighty people were in attendance including doctors, administration staff, managers, recruiters, and more.

Phil Naden, CEO of CTG Aboriginal Health, commented on the importance of events like this for his staff. He said that staff development days give the workforce a chance to have input into the direction of the company.

“[Our staff development day is] more around seeing what staff want in 2025,” said Phil.

“[What they want] around building capacity within their community and work around the region.

“Primarily, [it’s about] allowing staff to brainstorm together on issues that are important to them.

“It’s about staff having input into their own outcomes, aligning them with the contracts we have… but also showing what we are doing, and how we are doing things across the state.”

Across all their businesses, CTG Aboriginal Health covers a wide area of services; not only primary healthcare but oral health, a gym, and a funeral home.

“We are all one business,” he said, “from Wellington right out to Bourke and Mudgee. We cover about 40 per cent of the far western region.”

Phil said that events like these are held annually by CTG Aboriginal Health. The venue rotates between Dubbo, Coonamble, and Gilgandra. This year was the inaugural hosting for Gilgandra by GLAMS.

“I’d like to acknowledge [GLAMS], our board of directors, and our staff for their attendance today,” said Phil.

“I’d also like to thank Gilgandra Shire Council for allowing us to host our staff development day at the Shire Hall.”
