Gilgandra Shire Council is inviting everyone to celebrate as a community at the return of ‘A Christmas Wonderland’ later this month.

Miller Street will “sparkle and shine” with festivities including late night shopping, Gilgandra Evening Branch CWA Markets, the Shop Local Major Draw (winner must be present to claim!), a visit from Santa and Santa photobooth, live entertainment by local band ‘BADJA’, barbecue and chocolate wheel by Gilgandra Lions Club, face painting, ‘Pooka the Clown’, ‘Elf on a Shelf’, local food vendors, including Koda Café, Café 41, Lions and Thai Time Cafe, Kath’s Soft Serve and Dippin’ Dots…. and so much more!

Council’s economic development manager, Georgie Kelly, said this is a time to reflect on the year that was, come together as a community and support local businesses in the lead up to Christmas. “Our end-of-year celebrations are always a special moment for the community, and A Christmas Wonderland brings that spirit to life. It’s a chance to pause, reconnect and enjoy everything that makes our region so vibrant. As we head toward Christmas, we’re proud to champion our local businesses and the incredible contribution they make all year round. We can’t wait to see the unique touches they bring to the night.”

“A Christmas Wonderland is one of those events that brings community together, friends, families, neighbours and familiar faces from across the region. Thank you to all the businesses, volunteers and community groups who help make this event shine. It’s a wonderful way to wrap up the year, and we look forward to celebrating with you all.”

Local businesses within the Gilgandra local government area are also encouraged to enter the Business Christmas Display Competition, and be in the running to win one $300 Coo-ee Cash Card. “This year #LocalLegends and late-night shoppers will vote for their favourite display during A Christmas Wonderland with the winner announced after the Major Shop Local Draw!”

“Council is also seeking involvement to bring the community, local businesses, community groups, and residents together as we light up Miller Street for an evening of celebration, shopping local and connection! How you can be involved: run an activity and/or an initiative on the night of the event; run a community draw or competition; run a pop-up stall - this could be anything from goods, crafts, produce, or food; offer refreshments/nibbles in-store; consider in-store Christmas Wonderland specials for your business; and/or stay open late and participate in ‘Elf on a Shelf’.”
