The Gilgandra 12A Thunder have rounded out a fantastic cricket season falling just short in the grand final over the weekend to Dubbo CYMS.

While it is obviously a huge disappointment to go through the season undefeated and then lose in the grand final, it is important not to lose sight of the overall performance and spirit in which the team played this season. The team went into the game without Mitch Cosier, who unfortunately was injured in football trials a day earlier, but who was there to support his team in their chase for the win.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Thunder got off to a good start with Jock Mills and Georgia Allan looking to build a solid platform. Jock was out on 19 to a very impressive take in the field which boosted CYMS’ energy.

The main story with the bat was Georgia who stood up when the team needed her. She topscored with 29 not out - her best total with the bat this season.

Oscar Medd supported Georgia and he was not out on 16 with the rest of the team making a solid contribution. The 12A Thunder posted a competitive 128. It was always going to be hard to defend the score with CYMS having some very talented batters.

Thunder was just marginally off with their length and bowled a few full tosses which were jumped on by the CYMS batters. Oscar, Evie Peart and Jagger Hazelton each took a wicket but, in the end, CYMS passed the total three wickets down in the 23rd over. The whole team should be proud of their season and more importantly how they played their cricket. We had some very big wins but always played each game in the right spirit and with great sportsmanship, focussing on their own performance.

Thank you to Lorraine Hutchison who took on the key scoring role, also to Ash Hazelton and Randall Medd for coaching and supporting the kids at the games as well as weekly training sessions. It’s been a big commitment all round and the team wouldn’t have gotten where they did without their support.

Finally thank you to the parents for their support and commitment throughout the season and we look forward to next season and going one better.
