100 years of racing at Gulargambone

The Gulargambone Jockey Club (GJC) will celebrate 100 years of country racing this weekend at the 2025 Gulargambone Gold Cup Races this Saturday, August 30, 2025.

The annual race day is a long-standing tradition in the western district, and this year’s event marks a major milestone for the local club and wider community.

“Racing’s been part of Gulargambone’s history since 1925,” said club president Tom Gadsby.

“It’s a big achievement for a small community to keep an event like this going for 100 years and we’re proud to be putting it on again in 2025.”

The event will feature a full program of country races, with the Inland Petroleum Gulargambone Gold Cup as the feature race. The day will also include TAB facilities, local bookmakers, food and drink stalls, and the ever-popular Fashions on the Field this year sponsored by Gulargambone Hotel and Western Farm Machinery.

“We’ve had strong crowds the last few years,” said Tom. “It’s a good day out, low-key, good racing, and a real community feel.”

Organisers are encouraging locals and visitors to come along, dress up if they like, and be part of a significant moment in the town’s history.

The GJC has been volunteer-run since its early days and remains one of the few small clubs still operating in the region.

“Plenty of clubs have folded, but we’ve managed to keep ours going thanks to a loyal committee, great sponsors, and strong local support,” said Tom.
