Rodeo supports local Coonamble girl

Over 1000 riders turned out to Coonamble over the long weekend, for the acclaimed ‘biggest rodeo and campdraft in the southern hemisphere’.

Riders from across Australia competed in a range of events, including the brand new XXXX Saddle Bronc shoot out.

But it was the locals that made the event even more special.

One Coonamble family recently received news that their granddaughter was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The four-year-old is currently receiving treatment in Sydney with her parents and little sister.

XXXX donated a fire bucket to the Coonamble Rodeo and Campdraft Committee to auction off over the weekend, and whatever was raised, the committee were going to match it.

Pat Frost and Harry Farlow from Rockvale Station, Armidale, who were also first timers to the rodeo, took out the highest bid of $1050.

A total of $2100 will be donated by the committee to the Ronald McDonald House, where the young girl’s family will be staying for about 12 months.

“It warms your heart,” said one Coonamble local.

“Locals supporting locals. It’s the least we can do.”
