Pinkies travel to Coonamble for carnival
Rugby League
The Christie and Hood Castlereagh league tag carnival
was held at Coonamble last Saturday, and the
Pinkies made their way north on the Panther bus for
their first round game against last year’s grand finalists,
the Jet set girls from Narromine.
The Narromine team proved that they will be tough opposition in this year’s comp, when they piled on five tries against the Pinkies to advance to the next round, while the Pinkies went via the repechage rounds. After a brief rest the Pinkies came up against another hot opponent when they played the reigning premiers, the Lady Magpies from Baradine.
It was a much better display from the Pinkies, scoring
a try but the Maggies were able to cross the white
line three more times and end the footy side of the day
for the Pinkies.
Dunedoo went on to claim the crown and become the
first holders of the Jess Skinner Challenge Cup when
they beat a determined Narromine in the final.
The Jets took a 6-4 lead to the half-time break, but
the Swanettes powered home in the second half to take
the title 20-6.
Both sides showed that they will be the benchmark
for this year’s competition, each containing some very
talented players.
