Junior panthers kick off 2022 season
The Gilgandra Junior Panthers have started their football and netball seasons with two carnivals over the last few weeks, firstly in Walgett and then Coolah on Saturday.

The carnival format has the children
play a number of shortened
games against other teams in the
group 14 competition and from early
observations we’re sure our teams
will certainly be in the mix come
finals time.
This year, the under 10,
12, and 14s are all competitive formats
for football, and the under 12s is
competitive for netball which will be
great experience for our players.
It’s been wonderful to see the
number of children registering this
year, particularly in the football where
we are fielding a team in under 14s,
two teams each in under 12, 10, and
eights and a very excited team of our
future stars in under six.
We also have good numbers for
netball and are able to register two
teams in under six/eight, under 10,
and under 12. It is disappointing that
there are only three clubs playing in
the junior netball competition this
year however, it hasn’t dampened the
girls' spirits and the committee, along
with Amii Marchant and Lanie Barnes
as our local netball coordinators, are
determined to organise as many
games as possible for the players
through the season.
We have a short break now over the school holidays, however, we’re all looking forward to taking to the field and courts in a few weeks’ time in the new team uniform come round one in Coonabarabran.
