Huge five days of Easter golf

Gilgandra Golf Club hosted five days of golf recently, culminating in a well attended Easter long weekend.

A total of 121 golfers participated in last week’s golfing.

Veterans

The first day of golf for the week was the Veterans’ comp on Thursday. We had 10 golfers play a nine-hole stroke. The winner was Bob Dwyer with 33½ nett. Gil Riley came in second with a nett 34. Coming in third was Gladys Harvey with a 35 nett.

Good Friday - Martin Clift Memorial

72 golfers, or 18 teams, participated in Good Friday’s Martin Clift Memorial, four-person Ambrose. The winners were the Lummis connection consisting of Geoff and Allan Lummis and Mark and Aiden Hinchcliffe, who finished with a 53½ nett. Second place went to Q McEwen, W Riley, M Roach and G Bugmy with 56 1/8 nett. Third place was a team consisted of Bill and Kyle Welsh, E Ryan, M Ryan and M Collison, who had a nett 58 1/8.

Nearest the pin winner’s men: 2/11 and 4/13 Henry Johnson. 7/16 Zac Mills. Ladies’ winners for nearest the pin: 2/11 Kathy Dean. 7/16 Helena Gordon. Par Saturday On Saturday we played an 18-hole Par which was sponsored by Gil News and Gifts. We had 16 golfers play. Coming in first was Ian Dent with plus 3. Second place went to Bill Welsh with plus. Graeme Holland came in third with minus 1.

Matchplay result for Saturday:

Peter Fisk 5 and 4, defeated Mark Barwick.

Sunday Stableford

On Sunday we only had eight golfers, but this was enough to play an 18-hole stableford. First place went to Warwick Cross with 35 points. Matt Zell came in second on a three-person countback, as they all had 31 points. Gilgandra Toyota nearest the pin was won by Graeme Holland.

Monday’s Stableford

On Monday we played another 18- hole Stableford with 15 golfers taking part. The winner was Geoff Lummis with 38 points. Matt Hodge came in second with 34 points. Henry Johnson came third with 32 points. Gilgandra Toyota nearest the pin was won by Russell Anderson.
