Highway railway crossing gets stuck on flashing with boom gates down
Police diverted traffic for a short time Thursday afternoon as the Newell Highway railway boom gates got stuck on.
Thursday, July 14 - 2.30pm: this afternoon local police and highway patrol diverted traffic on the Newell Highway around the railway crossing near Mahers Hill Road, Gilgandra.
The crossing's lights were flashing and the boom gates lowered due to an unknown cause.
For most of the short road closure event, a train was not waiting to cross however, when the train turned up from the northwards Curban direction, the gates then opened.
A worker, who arrived on the approaching train was able to reset the gate and the train crossed without incident.
Police kept the traffic diversion in place for a short while until they were able to establish whether the gates would operate correctly.
