Gilgandra's young citizen of the year

A humbled and shocked Caitlynn King was awarded Gilgandra’s 2022 Young Citizen of the Year, at last week’s Australia Day celebrations.

Miss King purchased the Gilgandra Newsagency in March 2020, renaming the store Gil News and Gifts.

She has been working tirelessly ever since on building the business and providing a range of stock to cater for the needs of the community.

Running a business and opening seven days per week is a big ask, but Miss King, with help from her family and staff, has been up to the task and is always welcoming and friendly to customers.

After receiving the award, Miss King told the community that if you love what you do, you’ll never have to work a day in your life.

She explained that this statement is very true, and that she loves serving every customer that walks through her door and being part of the Gilgandra community.

As stated by Gail Babbage at the Australia Day celebrations, “a lot of time also goes into modelling, photographing and promoting the range of items for sale via social media”.

“With COVID-19 reducing the people entering the shop, Miss King has offered deliveries to customers. It is great to see a young person with vision and dedication to keep business in Gilgandra and keep our community thriving.”

Miss King was very grateful for the support she has received from the Gilgandra community, and is thankful for her nomination.
