OPINION After months of speculation, Prime Minister Scott Morrison met with Governor General David Hurley over the weekend, to ask him to officially dissolve the 46th parliament.
Federal candidates now face a six-week election campaign until the vote in late May.
How convenient this is for Gilgandra, for as pictured in 2019, the PM visited the Gilgandra Show on a whistlestop election tour of the central west.
The 2019 show was abuzz with the extra media attention. A bus full of reporters and television cameras arrived mid-morning at the show, and for most of the prime minister’s visit, a large throng of people followed him as he met with locals and posed for token photographs with machinery (as above).
Again in 2022, the local agricultural event is dated close to the pointy-end of the election campaign. So, will we see the PM and Nationals incumbent Mark Coulton make a return appearance?
