School captains travel to Sydney

Last week, Gilgandra High School’s captains attended the Secondary Schools Leadership Conference.

Harrison King and Marshall Fairey both visited Sydney’s Parliment House, and Government House, alongside other leaders from around the state.

The students heard from parliamentarians about leadership, they witnessed Question Time in both chambers, and even had the opportunity to ask questions about the nature of government, and how parliament addresses societal issues.

Member for Barwon, Roy Butler, was one of the parliamentarians at the conference, and said that the panel was able to tell the students what brought each of them into politics.

“There were also some great questions from students, including one from Narrabri about teacher shortages,” said Mr Butler.

At the end of the day, the students were given a tour of Government House, and were addressed by the official secretary, Colonel Michael Miller.

Harrison and Marshall were both grateful to the Gilgandra High School P&C for giving them the opportunity to engage with this invaluable experience.
