Rob retires
After 34 years at Gilgandra Toyota, Robert Hay is hitting the road, but this time leisurely, and in his retirement.

Initially starting in 1988, the job at
Gilgandra Toyota was only meant to be
temporary.
“I’ve been here ever since,” said Mr
Hay.
Over the years, the Gilgandra Toyota
dealership has significantly evolved.
“It was a very different place to what it is now, it was only a very small dealership, owned by Ian Smith and Buzz Noonan.”
Before Gil Toyota, Mr Hay worked at
the Whiteman’s Holden dealership.
“I
started an apprenticeship there, and then
I worked just shy of 10 years for them.”
Mr Hay had no idea that he would still be
at Gil Toyota after over 30 years.
“I found a place where I felt like I
belonged. My wife worked here for well
over 15 years as well. We became part of
the furniture.”
The plan from now is to travel and see
Australia for Mr Hay.
“Spend my kids’ inheritance as well,”
he laughed.
“I just want to jump in the car and
go.”
Mr Hay’s retirement was celebrated by the Gilgandra Toyota team and other community members on Monday, July 11. Celebrations were followed by the cutting of a cake.
