Red Cross News, December 21, 2022
A successful end of year for Gilgandra branch of Red Cross.

President Hilda Newstead and members
were delighted that the fundraising raffle they held
recently was very well supported by the local community,
A total of $1328.50 was raised.
All the money
raised will be forwarded to assist the latest flooding
event across several parts of NSW, including Forbes,
Molong and Eugowra. The branch were fortunate to
have the assistance of manager Garth Mason, who provided
the goodies for our Christmas hamper prize and
allowed us to use IGA premises to sell tickets.
Severe flooding also occurred earlier in northern
NSW and Queensland, where Red Cross services were
heavily relied on to evacuate and support those in need.
During these floods 23,500 persons were assisted in
NSW with Red Cross trained team members and volunteers
providing support in over 35 evacuation centres
and 25 recover hubs across impacted areas.
Comfort, support and tracing family members for
victims was provided, in addition to practical help.
Immediate relief care grants have been distributed and
ongoing long-term support is available to assist those
through the recovery process.
Though our branch members are few, we are pleased that we are still able to contribute to the many emergencies experienced in our wonderful, but unpredictable, land.
