Reconsider your backburning: even if it’s cold

The third grass fire in a week was
put out by the Rural Fire Service
crews over the weekend, proving their
ability to spread rapidly even in cold
weather.
The fire was put out by the
Gilgandra and Balladooran teams, but
promted a call out for land owners to
reconsider their burning.
“We ask that landholders please
consider if you really need to burn at
the moment,” said a spokesperson for
the RFS Castlereagh zone.
“If you do please make sure you
have strong, extra wide control lines
in place, please do not just rely on a
water cart as your only means of controlling
the fire if it were to escape.
“We would like to call out and thank our hard-working volunteers for responding to these jobs.”
