New Lawyer in town
After five years of study, Mrs Merilyn King from Kelly and Astill Gilgandra has been admitted as a lawyer to the Supreme Court of NSW.
Mrs King’s study was completed through the University of Sydney.
Mrs King’s admittance now allows the Gilgandra office of Kelly and Astill to have a full-time lawyer. Prior to this, business partner and lawyer Leeane Terlich would travel up from the Albury office once a month to see clients in Gilgandra.
On April 30 this year, Mrs King’s family and Mrs Terlich were privileged to be present when she was sworn in at the Supreme Court of NSW by the Honourable Thomas Frederick Bathurst, Chief Justice of NSW, as a lawyer.
“The encouragement and support from Leeane helped me in undertaking my diploma. I never thought when I first started with Kelly and Astill in 1995 with Mr Len Kelly that I would now be a lawyer myself,” said Mrs King.
Despite the five years being a challenge of balancing work, study and a busy family life, Mrs King says she couldn’t have achieved this goal without the wonderful support of family and friends. Mrs King will be attending a formal graduation ceremony at the University of Sydney later this year to obtain her Diploma in Law.
“Merilyn will be a fine lawyer and I’m really proud of what she has achieved. We are also very happy to have a business in Gilgandra that is able to offer legal services to the local community and surrounding areas,” said Mrs Terlich.
