Lucas Bridge now open
After over a year of work, Lucas Bridge at Breelong is now open.

Replacement
works commenced in February
2021, after the Gilgandra Shire Council
identified that the bridge over the
Castlereagh River had reached the end of
its useful life.
According to council, repair is considered
“temporary, costly, and inefficient
use of community funds”.
Replacement was recommended as
the only alternative.
The new bridge is a
reinforced concrete structure with two
lanesl It is also two metres higher than
the old timer bridge.
This has been made
to improve community access during
times of increased river flows.
The project was jointly funded by the Australian government’s bridges renewal programme and the Gilgandra Shire Council.
