Kimberly Roach

Kimberly Roach is the deputy captain of the Gilgandra Rural Fire Service (RFS), and has been serv- ing the community for seven years.

Initially, Mrs Roach only joined to help the catering department however, she was coaxed by a couple of women who were already in the brigade.

“It is the best thing I’ve ever done,” said Mrs Roach. Currently, predominately women run the Gilgandra RFS, though this wasn’t always the case.

“Back when I started was very male dominated. It was very funny being out with the males. I love the job. I know it’s only a volunteer association, but I enjoy jumping up and going to incidents and working with the team. The team is all wonderful people, we’re a big family.”
