John King turns 90
John King celebrated his 90th birthday surrounded by friends and family earlier this month.

With over 70
atttendees, Mr King felt the love.
The celebration was organised by John’s wife Lola
and his children Allan, Jennifer, and Ian, where the
gathering enjoyed a lovely Chinese lunch in
Gulargambone.
A longtime family friend, Robert Cox,
emceed the day’s events, telling stories of Mr King’s
life and achievements.
He was raised on the property ‘Elimike’ near
Gulargambone, where he has been involved in many
community organisations during his lifetime. These
included the tennis club, school, P&C, juniors’ football,
golf club, and bowling club.
Mr King was a charter member of the Gulargambone
Lions Club and held several positions including
park ranger and stock manager. He was bestowed the
Melvin Jones Fellow which is the Lions Club’s highest
service award.
Mr King also received the Australia Day Citizenship Award with wife Lola. Mr King’s sister Mary was unable to attend his celebrations.
