DFYM LEGO® Club
Our builders were problem solvers
last week at Designs From Your Mind
(DFYM) LEGO® Club, working on
multiple challenges.
Their task began with thinking of,
and building a wild animal, real or
imagined.
Then, they were told that their animal
was ‘stuck’ and had to build how
they were stuck; some children built
rabbits stuck in long grass, dinosaurs
wrapped in vines, penguins stuck in a
cave, Komodo dragons stuck in mud
and more.
The final challenge was to build a
piece of technology that would help
rescue their animal; we had many
creative inventions including robots,
lawn mowers, chainsaws, magnets,
and submarines.
We were very impressed at all the
ideas displayed today and our creations
are on display in the library.
DFYM is a fun program held once
a week after school and is suitable for
children aged five years and over.
The number of participants per session
is limited, so bookings are
essential.
Tech Club
There is a lot of laughter and creativity
when our Tech Club participants
get together in the library for
coding fun. ‘Hour of Code’ is a popular
website, which teaches children
the basics of coding using games.
Our coders have to problem solve
and create, often resulting in humorous
results.
Next week we will be exploring
with robots, so come join us!
Tech Club is a fun, free program
that runs once a week after school,
and is suitable for children aged eight
to 12 years.
Stocktake closure
At the end of the month, the library must close for a week for our two-yearly stocktake as part of North Western Library. All loans will be extended to cover the closure period, and we encourage everyone to borrow extra items before the closure to tide them over this time. Items can still be returned at any time via the book return chute.
