DFYM LEGO® Club
After a second week of learning
with the library’s gears machines kits,
our builders at DFYM (Designs From
Your Mind) LEGO® club, gained more
experience and confidence with
building with gears, levers and winches. The children created many feats
of engineering, to the delight of their
parents and themselves. These in-
credible machines are on display in
the library.
Tech Club
Our Tech Club participants have learned so much throughout the year that at last week’s session they were able to teach their sisters and friends how to code. Using Scratch Jr programming cards, as well as their own extensive knowledge, they could explain how their programs work, and teach others how to make their own animations. Tech Club is a fun after- school program, which will return in the first week of term three. The number of participants per session is limited, so bookings are essential.
Holiday Reading Passport Competition
Brr! It’s cold outside, but it’s perfect weather for reading. These holidays we invite everyone to lose them- selves in a good book. And while you are at it, you can be rewarded for reading by entering the library’s Reading Passport competition. Pick up a passport at Gilgandra Shire Library and get reading. You will need to get a parent or carer to sign off in your passport for each ten minutes you have spent reading.
There are 12 boxes in the passport, so once you’ve completed all of
them, you will have read for a total of
two hours. Bring your completed
passport to the library and you will
receive a special reward. This competition is open to everyone under
the age of 19 years. For children
under the age of 6 years, time spent
being read to counts too.
Holiday LEGO® Club and Engineering at the library
The holiday edition of LEGO®
Club starts today, at a special holiday
time, with new challenges. We will
also be holding a brand new weekly
holiday activity - Engineering at the
Library. We will be building a crazy
chain reaction, marble run or ‘Rube
Goldberg’ type machine. Both of
these free holiday programs are open
to children aged five to 12 years, and
have limited places, so bookings are
essential.
