Gil Weekly’s newest intern

By Emily Middleton

You might notice a different face behind the camera this week - introducing Tobias Ostini, our intern all the way from Canberra! Tobias is a year 12 student at Dickson College, he plays baseball and video games, and is also an inspiring journalist. So what better place to start than right here at The Gilgandra Weekly.

His dream is to work for the ABC or for Al Jazeera, (an international 24-hour English-language news chan- nel owned by the Al Jazeera Media Network, which is owned by the monarchy government of Qatar).

Reading and watching the news daily, Tobias was inspired by the “cool journalists who write interesting stories” - that was before he came to The Gilgandra Weekly of course, where I’m sure his allegiance altered.

“My two inspirations are Stan Grant, and Geoff Lemon, a cricket writier for the Guardian.”

In his first few days at The Gilgandra Weekly, Tobias has already been thrown into the deep end. Interviewing local personalities on their adventures and opinions, Tobias was also the photographer on Saturday night at the local Lions Club presentation night.

“My first days working for The Gilgandra Weekly have been really enlightening, I’ve learnt so much and met such amazing people,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to my next two weeks here, and I’m looking forward to all the opportunities that I might not see coming.”

For now, Tobias is enjoying something different to the regular school day, and is thrilled to be kick starting his journalism career.

Careful, he’s also an inspiring exposé journo!
